Our Pre-K program is designed to help children build the skills and confidence they need for a successful transition to Kindergarten. With so much to learn before heading off to elementary school, our class begins the year ready to explore, grow and learn together.
We introduce the alphabet and beginning sounds through exciting, theme-based learning experiences. Each week centers around a “Letter of the Week,” which helps guide our classroom themes and activities. Whether we are exploring Pirates and Princesses for the letter P or running our Super Shopping Store for Snacks and Sundries for the letter S, children are engaged in creative, hands-on learning opportunities that strengthen early literacy skills. Letters are practiced through movements, sign language, songs, stories, and interactive activities that make learning fun and memorable. We use the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum to help children develop strong early writing skills.
Our daily circle time helps build classroom routine and readiness skills. During this time, children participate in calendar activities, weather discussions, letter and number practice, counting forward and backward, and also learn the days of the week and months of the year. Children also take pride in helping with rotating classroom jobs and following daily schedules and routines. Having predictable expectations helps children gain confidence, independence, and a sense of responsibility.
Table time becomes more structured in Pre-K as children practice important Kindergarten readiness skills such as name writing, cutting, gluing, sharing supplies, following directions, and working independently. Children strengthen their fine motor skills and coordination through daily opportunities to use writing tools, scissors, and hands-on learning materials. It is always exciting to see the growth and progress children make throughout the year leading up to preschool graduation.
Throughout the day, children also enjoy arts and crafts, imaginative play, building activities, manipulatives, and more advanced games such as bingo. We provide opportunities to support social-emotional growth, language development, STEM learning, and early math and literacy skills through meaningful play and engaging activities.
We believe physical movement is just as important as academic learning. Outdoor play, dance parties, and gross motor activities are included regularly throughout the day to help children build strength, coordination, confidence, and social skills.
Our primary goal in Pre-K is to foster a love of learning, encourage kindness, and self-confidence, and build excitement and readiness for Kindergarten.
