Our Three-Year-Old classroom is a warm, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, create, and grow at their own pace. For many children, this may be their first school experience, and our teachers are well versed in helping each child transition comfortably into the classroom setting with patience, care, and encouragement.
Our day together is designed around weekly themes inspired by the children’s interests. Throughout the week, we bring each theme to life through stories, circle time discussions, question of the day activities, music and movement, and engaging small group experiences. Small group activities are hands-on and may include STEM and STEAM projects, literacy and math exploration, sensory play, science experiments, and arts and crafts. Music and movement are an important part of our day as well. Through songs, fingerplays, dancing, and gross motor activities, the children strengthen their coordination and build confidence.
The children are also introduced to a “Letter of the Week,” which we practice in a variety of meaningful and interactive ways during table time. From reading and identifying our letter in our poem book to brainstorming words and participating in hands-on activities, the children build early literacy skills all while having fun.
Each day, the children have opportunities to learn through play in our classroom centers. Our centers include dramatic play, art, writing, science and sensory, manipulatives, blocks, and library. These designated areas in our classroom encourage exploration while supporting the development of social-emotional learning, thinking skills, language, fine motor, and creative skills. Our centers allow the children to make choices, practice independence, problem solve, and interact with their peers in meaningful ways.
Gross motor play and outdoor time are also an important part of our three-year-old classroom experience. Spending time outside gives the children opportunities to run, climb, balance, and explore while building strength, coordination, and confidence. Outdoor play also encourages social interaction, imagination, and cooperative play with friends. Whether going on a walk, running around our path or enjoying free play on the playground, children are learning and growing in a fun, active environment.
